This Privacy Policy does not apply to personal data processing activities for which we do not determine the purposes and/or the means because they are managed completely by one of our affiliates. In such cases, you will be informed about the processing of your personal data by the local entity responsible for the processing of your personal data. Who we are

Your personal data are processed by Samsonite Europe NV (“we”, “us”, “our”), having its registered offices at Westerring 17, 9700 Oudenaarde, Belgium and registered under enterprise number 0400.245.655 in the RPR/RPM Ghent, Oudenaarde division. If you wish to contact us, you are kindly requested to contact us at privacy@aboutbags.com. For security reasons we ask that you never include credit card or other sensitive information in the emails which you send to that email address. On the website https://www.aboutbags.com/ we present you with a user-friendly system to update your personal data, report a data breach and change certain data processing preferences.

The “Last Updated” legend at the top of this Privacy Policy indicates when this Privacy Policy was last revised. Any changes will become effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy on the Services. Your use of the Services following these changes means that you accept the revised Privacy Policy.

Preliminary remarks

The Services are not directed to individuals under the age of sixteen (16), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under 16, except in those countries where the minimum age is lower.

Without prejudice to what is stated below regarding use and disclosure in connection with social media providers, we are not responsible for the information collection, use, disclosure or security policies or practices of other organizations, such as Meta, Apple, Google, Microsoft, RIM, TikTok or any other app developer, app provider, social media platform provider, operating system provider, wireless service provider or device manufacturer, including with respect to any personal data you disclose to other organizations through or in connection with the Apps or our social media.

We may, however, rely on the services of affiliate marketing service providers who will show our advertisements on other third-party websites. We exchange limited pseudonymized personal data with these affiliate marketing service providers to measure the effectiveness of our ads on such third-party websites. For such exchanges, we collect your consent through the cookie consent mechanism in our Privacy Center, where you can change your preferences at any time.

Sensitive data

We do not collect, and ask that you not send us nor disclose, any sensitive or special categories of personal data (for example, personal data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, genetic data, biometrics or genetic characteristics, criminal background, data concerning health or data concerning a person's sex life or sexual orientation, or social security numbers) on or through the Services or otherwise to us.

General purposes for which we process your personal data

We will always process all personal data we have collected about you, as described further herein, for the following general purposes:

  • to comply with legal obligations incumbent upon us, which may include laws outside your country of residence;

  • to comply with any reasonable request or order from competent officials or representatives of the police, judicial authorities, government agencies or governmental bodies, including when they are located outside your jurisdiction, for which we rely on our legal obligations;

In principle, we will only retain your personal data in accordance with the retention periods set forth in the sections below, unless one of these general purposes warrants a longer retention period for the purpose to be achieved.

When you use our Websites, Apps or social media

When you just visit our Websites, Apps or social media

When you visit our Websites, Apps or social media, we will collect, depending on the functionalities and features you use:

  1. technical information related to the device you are using and your internet connection, such as your IP address, browser type, geographical location and operating system;

  2. information about the way you interact with the Websites, Apps or social media;

  3. information which is already stored on your device, such as your cookie preferences, unique identifiers, etc.;

  4. the physical location of your device.

All of the above personal data we receive directly from you as well as from our social media providers (when you visit our social media). When you visit us on social media, the social media provider is solely responsible for the collection of the information about your interactions with that social media platform which are not shared with us. When you visit our Websites, Apps or social media, we will collect your personal data to:

  • allow you to use these Websites, Apps and social media;

  • keep these Websites, Apps, social media as well as our company, assets, employees and other stakeholders safe and secure;

  • collect non-personalized statistical information about the manner in which people interact with the Websites, Apps, social media and their content.

For all of the above purposes, we base ourselves on our legitimate interest to process your personal data to be able to engage in normal business communications and communicate about our products, services and activities, to understand how our communication channels are used and to evolve as a business.

Your personal data, which are pseudonymized unless we can link these data to a registered user account, will be stored until such time you exercise a valid right to erasure. Please bear in mind that we will only erase personal data to the extent that we are still able to establish that these data pertain to you, in accordance with our legal obligations.

When we collect the physical location of your device when using our Websites or Apps, we do so to provide you with personalized location-based services and content. We also sometimes share your device’s physical location, combined with information about what advertisements you viewed and other information we collect, with our marketing partners to enable them to provide you with more personalized content and to study the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. Uses and Disclosures in connection with Meta, TikTok and Pinterest

We engage the services of Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd (“Meta”), TikTok Technology Limited (Ireland), TikTok Information Technologies UK Limited (UK) and Pinterest Europe Ltd. in our implementation of services such as the Meta, the TikTok and Pinterest Conversions API, Facebook and TikTok social plug-ins, the Facebook and TikTok Pixel and the Pinterest Tag. Via these services, we share information with Meta, TikTok and Pinterest to receive valuable insights on your use of the website and your interest in our products, e.g., to provide you with advertisements that better suit your interests, to provide us with analytics and statistics, and for the improvement of our website. We process the personal data we share with Meta, TikTok and Pinterest only based on your consent.

We act as joint controllers together with Meta, TikTok and Pinterest in accordance with Article 26 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for the collection and processing of your personal data for the purposes indicated above. This is done via the Facebook and TikTok Pixel and the Pinterest Tag. We have the necessary agreements in place with Meta, TikTok and Pinterest to safeguard your personal data as required under the GDPR. Furthermore, Meta, TikTok or Pinterest may use your information as an independent controller to improve, provide and secure the Meta, the TikTok or the Pinterest products. When you create an account

When you create an account on our Websites or in one of our Apps, we will collect from you (in addition to the personal data mentioned in the previous section):

  1. basic identity information, such as gender and name;

  2. contact details such as email address, phone number and physical address;

  3. contact preferences related to our newsletters, commercial offers and promotions;

  4. order history;

  5. Any other personal data you choose to provide to us, such as your birthday.

We collect and use these personal data to:

When you choose to create or link your account using social media platforms, we may act as joint controllers with these social media providers for certain processing activities relating to your account creation. The personal data processed during the creation of an account will be processed as described above. We may receive and process:

When you have concluded a purchase for one of our products, we reserve the right to offer you one or more coupons or similar benefits which you can use to purchase products and services from third parties at a discounted price. The coupons are made available by Sovendus GmbH. When you choose to use a coupon, we will share pseudonymized personal data with Sovendus GmbH, such as your IP address, order value and coupon code, for which we rely on our legitimate interest to offer coupon services to our customers. When you register your product

When you register your product through our Websites or Apps, we collect from you the following personal data (in addition to the personal data collected when you visit our Website or App, as explained above):

  4. contact preferences related to our newsletters, commercial offers and promotions;

  5. information related to the product you bought.

  • let you register your products;

Your personal data will be stored for as long as required to achieve the aforementioned purposes after the completion of the last registration of a product you have made.

When we communicate with you via phone, email, contact or after-sales forms, video calls, chat, text or direct messaging, we will collect from you:

We collect and use your personal data, as well as other personal data we have collected about you in one of the circumstances mentioned above, to:

When you leave a product review

When you leave a product review, we will collect the following personal data:

We will also collect and use your personal data, with the exception of information related to your proof of identity or dietary preferences and food (in-)tolerances, to report about the event or fair on our Websites, Apps or social media or in printed media. When you visit one of our stores, we will collect from you in specific circumstance:

In case of the creation of an account in-store

When we register you in one of our stores, we will collect from you or through the intervention of one of our shopping assistants:

  2. contact details such as email address, phone number and physical address;

  4. your signature.

For all of these purposes we base ourselves on our legitimate interests to create a customer database of people who visit our stores. Your personal data will be stored at the longest until all purposes for processing mentioned herein have been achieved unless you request us to delete them before such time and such request for deletion is valid. When you make a purchase or request warranty, return or repair

When you make a purchase in one of our stores, request warranty or return a product as a consumer, we will collect from you the following personal data:

  3. information related to your order, such as the products and services you buy;

  4. information related to the chosen payment method.

  • let you submit warranty, return or repair requests.

  • management reporting;

  • improve our retail processes;

When you place an order with a store via phone, we will send you an email with a payment link. We rely on the necessity of using your email address to perform our contract with you. The payment service itself is offered by a third-party payment service provider.

Your personal data will be stored at the longest until all possible claims have been time-barred after your purchase, request for warranty, return or repair.

When you visit our company premises (apart from stores)

When you visit our company premises at Samsonite Europe NV, we will collect from you:

  1. basic identity information, such as gender and name;

  2. contact details such as email address and phone;

  3. professional information, such as the company you work for and your role;

  4. information about the time you enter our buildings and the person on our end with whom you have a meeting;

  5. information about your location;

  6. your license plate;

  7. your signature;

  8. your image recorded through our CCTV system.

We collect and use these personal data to:

  • to protect our staff, other visitors, our assets, premises and interests;

  • to prevent theft, vandalism and other types of crime;

  • for safety reasons in the context of, for example, a fire or an evacuation;

  • to inform persons with whom you have a meeting that you arrived.

For these purposes, we base ourselves on our legitimate interests to protect our staff, business and interest and to organize ourselves practically.

Your personal data will be stored for a maximum of one (1) year after your visit. The images collected via our CCTV system are erased after one (1) month.

When you participate in one of our surveys, sweepstakes or competitions

When you participate in a survey, sweepstake or competition, we will collect from you:

  1. basic identity information, such as gender and name;

  2. contact details such as email address and phone;

  3. your purchase history;

  4. any answers or input you provide to the survey, sweepstake or competition.

When you are one of our suppliers or a prospective supplier or represents one of them

In addition to any interactions we may have with you as a consequence of your use of our Websites, Apps, social media or communication via e-mail, phone, video calls, chat, text or direct messaging, we collect, from you directly or from the company you work for, whenever we receive a quotation for goods or services or order those goods or services from you:

  1. your basic identity information such as name, e-mail address, postal address, telephone number, company you work for, your position;

  2. the content of your communications, and the technical information of your communications themselves (the person with whom we communicate on our side, the date and time, etc.);

  3. payment and invoice related data when you invoice us for your goods or services.

We process your personal data in order to:

  • get a quotation for goods or services from you;

  • compare your offer to similar offers in the market

  • process the order, receive the order from you and handle invoicing and quality management;

  • engage in normal supplier relationship management;

  • engage in normal internal management reporting activities.

For the first three purposes we process your personal data because it is necessary to come to an agreement with you and perform the said agreement. If you represent a company, we rely on our legitimate interest to process the contact details of the people who represent our suppliers.

For the other two purposes the processing is based on our legitimate interest to engage in normal business and supplier follow-up.

Recipients of your personal data

We disclose personal data:

  • to our affiliates for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
